Last March, I had a sleepless night and idly checked the news to hear that ram raiders had reversed a Mercedes through the door of the Gucci store.
I arrived at the scene before 4.00am and police and security men were looking at the damage and assessing the losses.
The Mercedes only had about 100cm clearance either side of the door so the driver must have been accelerating fast with extreme accuracy to get through the metal gate and door. I was amazed at their daring to pull off a raid in such a public place.
There was a light drizzle reflecting the lights onto the pavement. I was the first photographer there and had time to speak to the police and the head of security while I was shooting. A tow-truck arrived and dragged the car out onto the street. There wasn't a scratch on it.
I thought the image was the perfect symbiosis of luxury brands.
